Outfit: 60’s graphic chic.

6.17.2013

I call this my Bill approved dress.  A thumbs up by the cutie Mr. Cunningham is always a good thing.  I just wish I was the one taking a photo of him that night at the Brooklyn Museum instead of me, he was painfully adorable!  I am obsessed with this Sonia by Sonia Rykiel dress that I got on ShopBop. The print is so arty and 60’s, and I love that it is just slightly a-line so that it is still fitting but yet very breathable for a hot summer day. I stopped for an Iced Coffee at one of my favorite little places on Graham Avenue here in Williamsburg.  They claim to have the “best ice coffee” in New York.  Whichi’m sure is true, but what I adore about it is that it doesn’t look like it has changed since the 1950’s.  Total mom and pop!

1. What do you think the connection between fashion week and actual design is?
Runway is an opportunity for a designer to create their own unfiltered world. I am also inspired by style on the street. This is where you see people take that one piece from the shows and make it their own. I feel design is how you interpret both the runway, your own style and this street inspiration for your customer.

2. I still remember, the first magazine that made an impression on me as a kid
I felt pretty cool for ordering W magazine in junior high, I am also pretty sure that I was the only one in Grand Forks North Dakota that it was delivered to.

3. My high school years involved a lot of being a wall flower. I basically spent every hour in the Art Room that I could, it was all glass windows and felt like a fish bowl. I think that was the beginning of the feeling that the rest of the world could see my art.

4. Now I get to work with I am fortunate because I am able to pick the people I work with. I see every opportunity as a collaboration but it’s also important for me to work with people that get my aesthetic. Together we come up with something which is both unique and true to my style.

5. I have a crush on Goldie Hawn. I am currently reading her biography, and I have always have been drawn to her free spirit and one who didn’t care if a hair was out of place. She wasn’t afraid to show her silly side, and she became infectious and known because of it.

6. I now live in Williamsburg, Brooklyn

7. What made you come to NYC to purse your dream? I dreamed of it since a little girl. But growing up in North Dakota I was not exposed to Fashion at all, so it took a couple of connections. and then bam I just went for it.

8. What do you think about social media ? Oversaturation or an outlet?
It used to be you went to the one party that everyone was at. now it just feels like going to a holiday party, so many to attend in one evening.

9. If you had to compare yourself to a women in the past who would it be?
it depends on my mood, does the character Mary Tyler Moore count? she has a great sense of independence, humor and style for that time. All worth envying of and hoping to be.
10. If you could leave us with one thought, what would it be?
take chances when you can. Try to be fearless as much as possible.
