Fave Looks: Alice + Olivia Sp13
1.21.2013
Walking into the Alice + Olivia Spring 13 collection was like walking into a set of Miami Vice for me. But actually the Designer Stacey Bendet behind the A+O collection was inspired by optimism and prosperous decade of the late 50’s. She looked into work by Artist Llya Botolowsky, who studied under the Artist Piet Mondrian. Where he adopted the use of vertical and geometric pattern into his work as well as the high use of primary colors mixed with more muted and pastel colors. The A+O collection had an explosion of primary colors that filled the room, along with sweet pastels. A sequin yellow dress, cobalt blue and red prints along with grass green lace and shimmery soft pastels. My eye was drawn to the tiny Lucite clutches filled with colorful candies to really make a statement of color. I fell in love with a little cardigan with a pop art face on it of a heavily mascara eye and big bright red lips.
Fave Party Dresses: T.V. Edition
12.26.2012
Giving you my choice of party dresses, this time inspired by a few of my fave TV Characters. Lisa Turtle from Saved By The Bell is notorious for her loud and fashionable style. And who doesn’t want to wear something fun and outrageous. I am obsessed with this Moschino Cheap and Chic dress, I can definitely see a modern day Lisa in this dress. Pair it with some houndstooth and floral to add that 90’s edge we all love. And to top it off this sheer netted blazer by Katie Gallagher, absolutely love! Oh! and Bauble Bar does this amazing personalized script acrylic necklace!

Carrie! Carrie! For a night on the town she is by far muse of choice if sipping martini’s and hailing taxi cabs are involved. I love this little black Milly dress, reminds a bit of a night gown from the 60’s. Twisting fashion up a bit a reason why I would see Carrie in this dress, or myself! Noted for her strand of pearls, this Erickson Beamon pick will definitely make the night of celebration special. A touch of glitzy bows and pom poms, and lastly this classic coat from Nanette Lepore. Supreme!

I am such a Donna girl. And when I saw this Moschino Cheap & Chic dress, it went straight to my wish list. Flirty just like our 90210 sweetheart. Very similar to the one she wore here in the 90’s, although I am pretty sure Donna would make this one a little more shorter. I think the over the knee hem makes it a little more sophisticated and cool with these clear wedges at Nasty Girl. NEED. Add some Sorrelli sparkles for the night with this lil canteen bag to stash in the evenings essentials.

Fave Looks: Karen Walker Spring 2013
9.23.2012
The crowd at Karen Walker is one of my favorites of Fashion Week. Her fan base is extremely inspiring and the most eclectic. For this season, designer Karen Walker took a time machine back to the 1950’s. It was a time when the world was so obsessed with the future and dreamed of flying cars, levitating shoes, and jetpacks.
Her colors she used remind me of space ships, with midnight blues, luminous blush, periwinkle blue, soft creams, blue sky and copper foil There were prints that replicated the galaxy, the planets, the sun as well as rockets flying to places unknown. Luminous fabrics such as organza, crepe de chine, georgette and sheer jacquards abounded. I fell in love with the polka dot angora sweaters. They could be worn with full skirts, or even better….more polka dots! I especially fancied the mini polka dot printed satine short with a sweet bow detail. I was also obsessed with the star washed denim that was seen as a blazer and pant duo. Swoon. I was blushing over all these details, taking the peplum trend to a new dimension with organza, incandescent as ever. Easy-fitted blouses, high-waisted pants and full skirts were the prominent silhouettes throughout the collection. Cool girl sweatshirts with copper foil inserts paired with a lady pencil skirt. Mint and cream color-block ankle boots and loafers adorned the feet of the models. And many of them were topped off with tall cadet caps. I’m surprised the DJ wasn’t playing like a toy soldier by-oh wait that’s the 80s! Miss Walker clearly took us back to the 1950’s in the most futuristic modern way, that we will want these clothes in the orbit of our closets!

Fave Looks: Orla Kiely Spring 13
9.19.2012
If she’s known for anything, Orla Kiely is marked by her young at heart vibe. It was no surprise, then, to see a mini Van Leeuwen truck parked in front of her Mercer Street store.
Further approach yielded more fun-at-heart quark: in the back of the store, there was a hippie style rv turned video viewing booth, and the sounds of Tennessee Thomas playing 60s jams and French pop filled the room.
Fashion Week is typically known for its breakneck pace and non-stop busy mode. But for the first time ever, I understood the Corona ads where people step out of the office and onto the beach. The store transported me and it was full on blasting a sunny and fun vibe that put me right into vacation mode. I grabbed a PIMMs cup and sipped my way through the collection.
Of course everything was very Orla Kiely replete with sixties inspired silhouettes and prints, sprinkled with a strong but nuanced touch of 50s Cocktail silhouettes throughout. A strong collection continued with an assortment of shift dresses including one that was crocheted. Some of the neater details were scalloped collars and sophisticated bow detailing on dresses and handbags. Travel was clearly part of her inspiration in this collection, and I’m not being artsy or profound when I say that: the assortment literally included the world’s cutest mini airplane prints and sailboats print displayed in a number of color patterns including Neapolitan (of course). Fabrics included both a white sheer 1960’s graphic flower in a sporty tee and a flirty skirt. The collection popped with colors of grass green, sherbet pink, lipstick red, navy blue, and white.
I left wanting just about everything in her collection, and a vacation. But as they say during Fashion Week, I’ll sleep (and vacation) when I’m dead!

Fave Looks: Rachel Antonoff Fall 2012
8.28.2012
Getting excited for fall and escaping into storybook land with Rachel Antonoff. For her Fall 12 collection she brings back a childhood memory of pretending to be sailing at night. And she takes us back to this imaginative tale very well with her whimsical clothes. No surprise here, in a very good way. Girlish dresses embellished with sparkling collars. Prints reflected a delightful trip sailing along a forest of printed leaves. And how adorable is this little skirt with a coin purse sewn to be a pocket! That is definitely going on my wish list! Colors included fire engine red, delicate oranges, deep blues and a dark turquoise. Silhouettes were of high waisted skirts, playful rompers, 40’s feminine fitted tea-length dresses, along with embellished shifts. Hoping to get my hands on some of these this fall, so cute!!
