Fave Looks: Karen Walker Fall 2013

4.1.2013

Art Girl meets Working Girl. Totally my cup of tea here for Karen Walker Fall 2013.  Sounds from The Damned and the Souixsie Sioux took over the runway.  Imagine little miss downtown with her headphones off to her 9 to 5 job, so of course her saving grace is the music blasting and the outfit that she put on for the day.  My favorite was this pink all over look, sported with cool girl shades, a fuzzy snow cap, and a no frill pink dress.  I couldn’t help but obsess over the bow suspenders that kept the girls dresses up. That’s right, a working girl’s got to hustle. The collection was filled with lots of a-line dress, I am so into this shape for right now.  Large Hounds tooth plaid and pinky tweeds were the statement fabrics.  Total utility girl-meets-romance, not an easy thing to pull off. But miss Walker makes it work effortlessly!

Fave Looks: Karen Walker Spring 2013

9.23.2012

The crowd at Karen Walker is one of my favorites of Fashion Week. Her fan base is extremely inspiring and the most eclectic. For this season, designer Karen Walker took a time machine back to the 1950’s.  It was a time when the world was so obsessed with the future and dreamed of flying cars, levitating shoes, and jetpacks.

Her colors she used remind me of space ships, with midnight blues, luminous blush, periwinkle blue, soft creams, blue sky and copper foil   There were prints that replicated the galaxy, the planets, the sun as well as rockets flying to places unknown. Luminous fabrics such as organza, crepe de chine, georgette and sheer jacquards abounded. I fell in love with the polka dot angora sweaters. They could be worn with full skirts, or even better….more polka dots! I especially fancied the mini polka dot printed satine short with a sweet bow detail.  I was also obsessed with the star washed denim that was seen as a blazer and pant duo. Swoon. I was blushing over all these details, taking the peplum trend to a new dimension with organza, incandescent as ever. Easy-fitted blouses, high-waisted pants and full skirts were the prominent silhouettes throughout the collection. Cool girl sweatshirts with copper foil inserts paired with a lady pencil skirt.  Mint and cream color-block ankle boots and loafers adorned the feet of the models. And many of them were topped off with tall cadet caps. I’m surprised the DJ wasn’t playing like a toy soldier by-oh wait that’s the 80s! Miss Walker clearly took us back to the 1950’s  in the most futuristic modern way, that we will want these clothes in the orbit of our closets!

Back to School: with some of my fave tv characters!

8.28.2012

If you follow my Monday Musette column….you know I am a little obsessed with TV characters! I have my favorites who inspire me, and motivate me to try something a little new and different once in awhile!  Here is a few of them, and what a modern day ‘Sydney’, ‘Cher’, ‘Denise’ or ‘Mallory’ would wear back to school this fall with a twist of my own of course!

Sydney from the 1992 Melrose Place was the college drop-out but I dig her floral finds and school girlish beret’s!
